Fuck Religion
This has truly been a historic period in the annals of human stupidity.
A Danish cartoonist publishes pictures of the prophet Mohammed with a bomb instead of a turban, holding a machine gun etc. demonising Islam as a violent, murderous religion. Stupid.
Demonstrations take place against the publication in London featuring placards proclaiming: 'behead those who insult Islam' 'remember Nine-Eleven' and a protestor dressed in a suicide bombers outfit-therefore proving the point of the cartoons they were protesting against. Stupid. A series of cartoons mocking the holocaust are run by an Arab newspaper. Stupid.
The protestor with the suicide vest deserves a special mention-he had recently been released from prison for the very holy activity of dealing class A drugs. By attending the demonstration he violated the terms of his parole and is now back in jail. STUPID.
This whole thing is ridiculous. I've heard the most bizarre and outrageous views espoused in the past week-a Muslim cleric demanding that the cartoonist be tried in an Islamic court and executed for blasphemy...it just goes on. I think the cartoons were idiotic. But in a democratic world we all have the right to make complete fools of ourselves without having vital areas of our bodies removed.
The point is that all of this is based on complete and utter nonsense. People are prepared to commit murder, to stone people to death, to take away people's freedom based on a mass delusion-this applies to all religion. Christians, Jews, Muslims...as for mocking the holocaust, which is worse: mocking a belief system based on blind faith and zero evidence or mocking the very real murder of six million men, women and children? I realize that the murderous elements within these faiths are in a minority but it doesn't let religion off the hook. No-one should be encouraged to live their lives according to a delusion and that is what faith is.
Some people believe that aliens are here on Earth. These people are treated as being a bit crazy. And they are, but there is more evidence to support their beliefs than there is to support Christianity or any other religion. Religion argues that it cannot be disproved that there is a God but there are a million things that can't be disproved. Maybe the whole world is a computer simulation and we're being used as batteries by artificially intelligent machines. You can't disprove that, but if I said I belived the Matrix to be true I'd be locked up. Imagine if I went out and killed anyone who made fun of Neo?
How can people live like this. Without thinking about the world, getting all the answers from a book. Religion removes the sense of wonder from life. It cheapens life. If God existed then I could happily just walk into the street with an AK47 gunning everyone down and it wouldn't make a blind bit of difference. The good would go to heaven; doing them a favour, the bad would go to hell; doing God a favour. If there is an afterlife then how can anything that happens on Earth matter? What would be the point of compassion? The word for this is nihilism. Its a nasty word. And why is Satan held up as being evil? All he supposedly does is punish the guilty. And as for his influence on the Earth, in the face of all the evil done in the name of God Satan must have retired a long time ago. Fuck religion. And fuck you.
