God is a Wuss
Certain Islamic leaders are now demanding that Europe introduces laws criminalising insulting the pillars of Islam, and are threatening a mass boycott of European products if they don't get their way. They justify this by stating that Jews have this sort of protection through the various anti-semitism laws in existence in Europe, and they want equal treatment. A boycott would put European countries under some considerable pressure but they have to resist.
The argument pertaining to anti-semitism laws is bullshit. The laws are in place to protect a race of people, not a religion. No religion, including Judaism, has the kind of protection from insults that these scholars are now demanding and none should. The reason for this is that religion is a choice while race is most certainly not. As I've said before in this blog (I think) no-one should be persecuted for their religion in any way, but there are already a wealth of anti-discrimination laws in Europe designed to prevent that kind of thing.
Of course this is all an extension of the ridiculous cartoon incident. Publishing the cartoons was an ignorant and pig-headed act of malice by a newspaper a little too right wing for comfort, but the reaction of the extremists seems ridiculous to me. If God is so offended by these cartoons, why doesn't he do something about it? Why does he need human beings to stick up for him? Isn't he all powerful? If God wants someone dead, why doesn't he do it himself? What on Earth would be the point putting in place laws to protect a God?

Nothing wrong with those cartoons mate, the trouble is the Muslims want us all to convert to Islam and never take anyone else`s feelings or rights into consideration.
In this country in the past we have joked about Christians,Catholics, the Scots, the English and the Irish and always taken it in good part, but now the Muslims are here it`s all wrong to joke about them.
Hmmm....main problem I have with the cartoons themselves is that they were more malicious than funny but it certainly shouldn't be illegal to mock a religion.
I agree with you, there's a big double standard with Islam-I can't imagine the government caving in to Catholics demanding that Father Ted be banned...
